We are Darryl and Connie Wilson, a husband and wife team that are owners of Alpaca Valley Farm. Our quaint country store came about from many vacations where we visited small country shops and thought that we would love to do something similar. The difference is, we wanted to add animals. Somehow we came upon alpacas, great animals for their fibre and overall gentleness.
Opened on November 16, 2013,. Alpaca Valley Farm’s barn was constructed in 2008, in beautiful Slate River, Ontario by Darryl and Connie with a whole lot of help from friends. The farm is only 10 minutes south of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In 2013 the idea of a farm based store was realized and Alpaca Valley Farm opened its doors for the first time. Our first customers arrived on motorcycle.
Darryl and Connie, are certain to make you smile with their sincere and pleasant personalities.
They sell alpaca products and locally made items. Their country store is located at the front of
the barn. Windows in the store allow visitors to see the alpacas in the barn while shopping.
After they opened their farm doors to the public, Darryl and Connie set out to provide a premiere country farm experience. Now when you stop by the farm, everyone can have the opportunity to see the alpacas (and if you are lucky, pet them).Alpacas produce on average 8 pounds of fiber per year which is sent to mills to be converted into the much coveted alpaca yarn and wearable items such as socks.
Easily seen from Highway 130, Alpaca Valley Farm is home to four huacaya (wa-ky-ah) alpacas, each with their own personality. Everyone is welcome to stop by. Coffee if always on during store hours. Maybe we’ll see you before Christmas.
